"Charlie Hebdo" published a new volume of "The Life of Muhammad", always with the same satirical tone. It includes following the prophet's life, six months after the publication of the first volume. The first volume, published last December, detailing the beginning of the prophet's life, from his birth to the revelation. It has sold around 53,000 copies. This time, the 80-page comic titled The Prophet of Islam, provides a rigorous chronology of the life of Muhammad. The lyrics were written by Zineb, Franco-Moroccan sociologist of religion. The reader will discover the spectacular episodes, as his journey from Mecca to Jerusalem on a winged horse and his encounters with other prophets, Abraham, Moses or Jesus he was even able to describe physically, according to the writings referenced. Other moments are less glorious, as when the prophet raises armies to fight wars which turn massacre. It also chronicles the week siege of the Jewish tribes that will ultimately slaughtered near Medina.

And especially, why publish it? (Even if the ways of formulating the question are rarely as polished). Here is what Charb said in January.

So I read the fascinating biography of Muhammad written by Maxime Rodinson. I wanted to tell the life of this type is capable of triggering hysteria since they say his name. I learned a lot and I laughed myself too. There are spectacular episodes, moving, but also grotesque in the life of Muhammad as the Muslim chroniclers have reported. They lend themselves to this type, which, unlike Jesus, is claimed as a mere mortal, miracles as ridiculous as those in the New Testament attributed to the son of God ...


The project to tell the life of Muhammad really started when I met Zineb, journalist and sociologist of religion. This was after the local fire Charlie. We should leave this story earlier, but there was in September this new scandal of the Mohammed cartoons in Charlie. It was not that confused drawings that illustrated so hot satirical news with a comic telling no humor added the life of a prophet.
